πΎπͺ GUS1THEGO EXPEDITION: MAINLAND YEMEN
March 16β21, 2027 | 6 Days | Yemen β Oman
Ready to experience one of the most fascinating and rarely visited countries in the world?
From March 16β21, 2027, Gus1thego Expeditions is heading deep into mainland Yemen for a journey through ancient cities, dramatic valleys, mud-brick skyscrapers, remote mountain villages and the spectacular landscapes of Hadhramaut and Al Mahrah.

Yemen.. We are doing it again
Last year, I brought a group of adventurous travelers with me to experience mainland Yemen β and it turned into an unforgettable expedition.
After the success of that journey, we’re doing it again in 2027!
This time, we’re returning with another small group to explore the incredible cities, valleys and landscapes of Hadhramaut. We are flying in from Cairo in Egypt to Seiyun and then traveling overland across eastern Yemen and finishing in Salalah, Oman, where we will fly out!

This isn’t your typical holiday.
Yemen remains one of the least visited destinations in the world, yet it is home to extraordinary architecture, history and landscapes that few international travelers ever get the opportunity to experience.
Our journey begins by flying from Cairo, Egypt, to Seiyun, in Yemen’s legendary Hadhramaut region. From there, we’ll travel overland across eastern Yemen before eventually crossing the border into Oman and finishing the expedition in Salalah.
Over six days, we’ll experience some of Yemen’s most remarkable places.

DAY 1 β CAIRO β SEIYUN πͺπ¬βοΈπΎπͺ
Our adventure begins with the journey from Cairo, Egypt, to Seiyun, the gateway to the Hadhramaut Valley.
After arriving in Yemen, we’ll meet our local team and begin getting our first impressions of a country very few travelers ever see.
Seiyun is surrounded by dramatic desert landscapes and traditional towns that seem almost untouched by time.
We’ll settle in, meet the group and prepare for the adventure ahead.

DAY 2 β SEIYUN β TARIM β SHIBAM
Today we explore some of the greatest cultural treasures of Hadhramaut.
First, we’ll visit Tarim, an ancient city famous for its Islamic heritage, distinctive architecture and historic mosques.
From Tarim, we continue to one of the absolute highlights of the expedition:
Shibam.
Often nicknamed the “Manhattan of the Desert,” Shibam is famous for its extraordinary multi-storey mud-brick tower houses.
Walking through its narrow streets feels like stepping centuries back in time.
The old walled city of Shibam is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and represents one of the world’s most remarkable examples of traditional vertical urban construction.
It is one of those places you have to see with your own eyes to fully appreciate.

DAY 3 β SEIYUN β WADI DOAN β HAID AL-JAZIL
We leave Seiyun behind and head toward one of Yemen’s most spectacular regions:
Wadi Doan.
This enormous valley is surrounded by towering cliffs and dotted with beautiful traditional villages.
We’ll explore the valley before reaching Haid Al-Jazil, one of Yemen’s most photogenic settlements.
The village sits dramatically on top of a huge rock formation overlooking the valley below.
It’s difficult to imagine a more spectacular location for a village.
This is the Yemen that rarely appears in international media β ancient settlements, huge landscapes and communities that have existed here for generations.
For photographers and content creators, this part of the expedition should be particularly special.

DAY 4 β WADI DOAN β MUKALLA π
After another morning surrounded by the landscapes of Wadi Doan, we’ll continue toward the coast.
The scenery changes dramatically as we arrive in Mukalla, the capital of Hadhramaut Governorate and one of Yemen’s most important coastal cities.
After days of desert valleys and historic mud-brick settlements, we’ll suddenly find ourselves beside the Arabian Sea.
We’ll have the opportunity to experience Mukalla, its waterfront and the atmosphere of coastal Yemen before continuing our journey east the following day.

DAY 5 β MUKALLA β AL GHAYDAH
Now the expedition becomes a true overland adventure.
We’ll travel east from Mukalla through some of Yemen’s most remote landscapes toward Al Ghaydah, the capital of Al Mahrah Governorate.
This is a part of Yemen that very few international visitors ever reach.
The long journey gives us the chance to see how dramatically the country changes as we travel toward the borderlands between Yemen and Oman.
We’ll spend our final night in Yemen preparing for the last stage of the expedition.

DAY 6 β AL GHAYDAH β HAWF β SALALAH π΄π²
Our final day takes us toward the lush landscapes of Hawf near the YemeniβOmani border.
This region provides another completely different side of Yemen and is a spectacular way to finish our journey through the country.
From Hawf, we’ll continue toward the border and make our way into Oman, eventually reaching Salalah.
After six unforgettable days, our expedition officially ends in Salalah.
In less than a week, we’ll have traveled from the ancient cities of Hadhramaut through Wadi Doan, across Yemen’s Arabian Sea coastline and the remote landscapes of Al Mahrah before crossing overland into Oman.

WHY JOIN THIS EXPEDITION?
I’ve traveled through some of the world’s least visited and most misunderstood countries, and that’s exactly what Gus1thego Expeditions is about.
These trips are created for travelers who want something different.
Not resorts.
Not mass tourism.
Not another destination where everyone takes exactly the same photograph.
Instead, we’re looking for real adventure, unusual destinations, incredible stories and experiences you’ll remember for the rest of your life.
Yemen is a destination that most people only ever hear about through the news. This expedition offers the opportunity to see a different side of the country β its architecture, landscapes, history, food and people β while traveling together as a small group with local logistical support.
You’ll also be traveling alongside me Gus1thego, I’m a Danish-Faroese travel creator who has traveled extensively through challenging and rarely visited destinations around the world, in fact visiting every country in the world except 1.

β οΈ IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT TRAVELING TO YEMEN
This is not a conventional tourist destination or a normal group holiday.
Yemen has experienced years of conflict and remains subject to serious security risks and restrictive government travel advisories in many countries. Conditions can change quickly.
Anyone considering joining should carefully read the latest official travel advice issued by their own government, understand the risks involved and make an independent decision about whether this type of expedition is appropriate for them.
The itinerary may also need to change before or during the expedition because of local conditions, permissions, border procedures, security considerations, weather or other circumstances outside our control.
Flexibility is an essential part of joining an expedition like this.
