The 3 MOST STUNNING PLACES In Europe

There are so many stunning cities in Europe, and some of the cities on THIS list are not on my FAVORITE cities in Europe. However these 3 places in Europe left me with deep fascination of its beauty and colors and are for me the most stunning places to go and watch in Europe (if you can avoid the tourist masses!)

3. Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik is a beautiful, colorful city in southern Croatia fronting the Adriatic Sea. All houses with red roofs and it’s looks stunning from above. It’s known for its Old Town, encircled with massive stone walls you can walk on completed in the 16th century. The place is well-known as the “King’s Landing” in Game of Thrones.

Furthermore there are a lot of activities you can do in Dubrovnik. I met my cousin by a strange incident and we took a long scenic kayak-trip around the cliffs and inside the massive caves. To round it off I went for some cliff jumping.. So much fun. Dubrovnik is getting more crowded now than when I went in 2017, but it’s still one of the most stunning places in Europe for sure! With lots of cool activities to do!

2. Cinque Terre

In the Liguria region in Italy you’ll find Cinque Terre, laying on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline. 5 small centuries-old seaside villages with super colorful houses and vineyards cling to steep terraces. Absolutely scenic and with harbors filled with fishing boats. The Sentiero Azzurro cliffside hiking trail links the villages, but you can also take a small train which goes through the villages every 30 min. I went to all of the 5 villages, but I fell completely in love with Manarola, which was my favourite of the villages.

1. Oia, Santorini

Oia is an iconic coastal town on the northwestern tip of Santorini. For me going to Oia was top of my bucket-list. Ask my parents and my friends, I’ve been stalking this place for a long time and even had a background photo on my computer of this picturesque Greek place for a year.

I love the whitewashed houses carved into the rugged clifftops overlooking a vast caldera filled with water.

This place is something special and if you can avoid the tourist crowds, a sunset view here is very hard to beat! I still remember having an extremely expensive lunch on a restaurant here with one of the best sights I’ve yet experienced. I ate that Greek salad extremely slowly and there’s a good reason why. So stunning!

These are 3 of my favourite places in Europe that came to mind right now sitting here in Stockholm Airport, but I have so many others also. Europe is a fascinating continent and even though I’ve been to every country and capital here (most +2 times), I feel like I still have a lot more to experience in Europe!

What’s your favourite places in Europe?

The 5 Most Beautiful Countries in Europe (Landscape)

I have traveled a lot worldwide for 7 years, been to every country in Europe and most of them +2 times. These are the 5 most beautiful countries in Europe based on ONLY landscapes, according to my point of view. We all have different preferences, but for me these countries blew my mind. This is the Top 5!

The 5 Most Beautiful Countries in Europe (Landscape)

5. Scotland

Edinburgh and Glasgow are very cool cities, but the most fascinating part of Scotland is the dramatic scenery, the lush woodlands, the stunning lochs, rugged coastline and green rolling hills topped with crumbling castles. My personal favourite part is the Scottish Highland. I still remember my travel around Scotland, the fabled Loch Ness and these, misty, magical mountains. If you’re lucky to have no rain the Isle of Skye is an iconic place! I’ve been to Scotland 3 times and I really hope I will come back to see more.

Scotland has some of the most beautiful landscape in Europe

4. The Azores, Portugal

I’ve been to mainland Portugal 3 times and it’s a beautiful country! I like Porto, Lisbon and Sintra very much, but my fascination of mainland Portugal is most of all because of the cozy cities and villages, yet the landscape is nice too. On my 4th time in Portugal I wanted to see a new part of the country and went to The Azores. The Azores was actually recognized as the most beautiful destination in Europe by the European Best Destination, and the blue lakes ringed by forests of laurel and cedar and the peculiar rocks and structures certainly is TOP-CLASS on this volcanic archipelago. Hyacinths are everywhere, nature is so lush and green and breathtaking views from mountain tops when hiking around.. So close to my very top!

Portugal is so much more than only Lisbon.. The Azores has STUNNING landscapes

3. Iceland

Iceland is a country you CAN’T skip on this list. I’ve only been to Iceland one time and I spent 7 days there, but tried to see as much of the island as I could. Iceland’s blue bubbling geysers, rugged lava fields, and spectacular glaciers create a visual spectacle that seems out of this world. Definitely the Land of Fire and Ice, and who honestly wouldn’t love taking a dip in the Blue Lagoon?! Crazy colors, geysers, waterfalls and rock formations everywhere here.. Thumbs up for Iceland!

Visited Iceland is 2015 and I still remember these unique landscapes

2. Norway

I’ve been to Norway 20 TIMES.. Insane!? I went a lot to Norway as a kid and just as much as an adult.. I love the landscapes, there’s always a new adventure waiting in my Danish neighbor country. Deep, striking fjords, rugged coastal mountains and glaciers that take your breath away. Spectacular national parks which protect the nation’s unique scenery and wildlife. Norway is so big and some parts of the country lies within the Arctic Circle. Go north in the country and there’s a good chance of seeing Northern Lights, while reindeers and polar bears roam the staggering ice fields of the Svalbard archipelago most north.

Norway is fascinating, even in the extremely cold winter days with 2 meters snow laying everywhere…

Norway with my dad. As a kid I went mostly to Norway for holidays and a few other countries. Now I’m at 120 countries!

1. Faroe Islands

If you visit Faroe Islands on a big cruise ship for a few days and you only visit the capital Torshavn, then I’m sorry to say that you’ve missed out on some of the most beautiful scenery in the World. Faroe Islands is every photographer’s dream coming true!

I’ve been to Faroe Islands 14 times and been to most of the 18 islands, which are all very unique in their own way. The dramatic, mind-blowing islands landscape is shaped of steep cliffs with sheeps everywhere (Faroe Islands means ‘Sheep Islands), deep fjords and high rising mountains – no matter where you are, you are never more than 5 kilometers away from the ocean!

This natural paradise is Europe’s best kept secret, and while tourists are flocking countries like Iceland and Norway the Faroe Islands still goes under the radar, which makes it even more unique and special!

In a small village called Tjørnuvik in Faroe Islands with 64 people living there

Faroe Islands even has an island with only one family living there! As remote as it gets. Check out The 5 Reasons Why You Need To Go To Faroe Islands, if you’re planning to visit soon. You definitely should!

That was my ‘Top 5 Most Beautiful Countries In Europe (Landscape!) What’s yours?

5 Awesome Things To Do In Rome, Italy

I’ve been to Rome 3 times and these are my Favourite Things to do in the Italian capital!

1: Hang Out in the Pantheon

Pantheon looks today – inside and out – much the way it has looked for nearly 2,000 years. These marble floors you’re walking on? Yeah, people have been walking on them for two thousand years.
The Pantheon in Rome is, hands down, my favorite building in the city. The Pantheon still manages to stand out in a city that is simply replete with important historic buildings and monuments.

2: Eat Something Typically Roman

I love trying out different pizzas and Rome is the place to do it!

Rome is THE place to eat a lot of pizza!

Shops, pizzerias, takeaways, and restaurants all serve you some of the tastiest pizzas in the World and if you search well you can easily find pizza to low price with high quality.

One of my favourite places for pizza is ‘Pizza E Mozzarella,’ close to Trevi Fountain. The restaurant doesn’t look as much from outside, but the pizzas are absolutely incredible. Authentic Italian style, very tasty and fresh and the location is right in the centre of Rome. The bruschetta is good too.
Very affordable prices with a generous and nice owner! Check it out when in Rome!

Other common Roman dishes, which you may be familiar with from restaurants outside Italy, but you should try in the original place where they come from, are bucatini all’amatriciana (a tomato sauce cooked with onion and a fatty pork called guanciale) and spaghetti alla carbonara (the sauce is made from egg yolks, pecorino romano, and pancetta). Yummy!

3: Get a Tour of Vatican City

While Vatican City is its own independent city-state (and country), no one only visits Vatican City without visiting Rome as well. For most travelers, touring the Vatican is a one day trip from Rome, and that’s exactly what I suggest when people ask me how much time they should spend in Vatican City.

Gustav in Vatican City, 2019

I go to The Vatican every time I go to Rome, because it’s such a cool place with breathtaking sights and spectacular artworks. And how cool is it to have a country inside of a city?!

Furthermore is St. Peter’s Basilic the most beautiful church I’ve ever seen from inside and it basically makes all other churches look average compared to it.

If you want to visit St. Peter’s Basilica, you can do it for free, but you’ll usually have to wait a lot of hours, because the queues are long and slow. The second option is you can pay for the fast track access with a guide for around $30, which my friend and I did back in 2013 and it was certainly worth it.

Inside St. Peter’s Basilica in 2013 in The Vatican

If you are in Rome for a short time, you might consider skipping the line, so you can hit up some of the other main attractions!

PS. The dress code is strictly enforced at St Peter’s Basilica. Men must wear long trousers (no shorts) and cover their shoulders, women must not have either bare shoulders or skirts shorter than knee length.

4. Do Some People-Watching at the Trevi Fountain

Trevi Fountain is the largest Baroque fountain in Rome and also the most famous one.

Trevi Fountain is the most beautiful and most spectacular fountain in Rome. @gustavrosted

I admit that the Trevi Fountain is seriously touristy, and can be kind of a pain in the height of the tourist season because of the crowds. You can go early morning or in low-season to avoid most tourists.

After throwing your coin in the water (right hand over left shoulder, remember!), it can be a lot of fun watching other people taking pictures and making silly videos. Just relax, hang out, and watch the throngs of people repeating the same ritual over and over again. It gets pretty amusing, actually – especially when the designated photographer or videographer goofs up and the whole process has to be repeated (there goes another euro!).

Remember Trevi Fountain has garnered its worldwide fame because of its beauty and it is a must see site in every tourist’s route once in Rome. Beautiful place!

5. Visit Colosseum

One of the seven Wonders of the World. This mighty structure is one of the most renowned and iconic landmarks in the world and a trip to Rome would not be complete without visiting the Colosseum.

Great Colosseum, Rome, Italy. Love taking the Gladiator’s Entrance, pretending I’m Russell Crowe!

The Colosseum was constructed between 70-80 AD and at its peak was estimated to hold 80,000 spectators. I’ve watched ‘Gladiator’ countless times with my dad and admit I have a soft spot for this place.

Located to the south west of the main terminus train station, the Colosseum is easily accessible and has a metro station in close proximity, called Colosseo.

Check this famous structure from all angles, and ensure that you brave the queues and step inside to truly appreciate the enormity of this ancient place of celebration. Just like a Gladiator!

Unstoppable trio.. Rome, one of the best cities in Europe

That’s all from me.. Enjoy Rome!
